Heinlein's Gay Deciever - In LEGO® Bricks

Interior storage

This shot shows the storage space for the binoculars and camera that I talked about pages ago. (And here you thought I had forgotten!)

Also, note the arm rests on the rear seats - they're in upright and locked position for this photo.

I haven't mentioned them before, but this shot also shows off one of the running lights (in red) as well as the cabin lights (in yellow).

FridgeThis last interior shot shows the fridge in open position. It actually goes down below the level of the deck, and was a major hassle to work around when designing the landing gear.

The fridge is the one feature that moved around the most during development - every time I thought I had it locked in, some interior detail would force me to move it half a stud one way or another. But it's in the book...

Gay's cold chest is set flush in the deck of the driver's compartment. Zebbie told Gay to open up, then with his shoulders sideways, reached down and unlocked it. - Page 108

UndersideThis shot of the underside shows you what I'm talking about when I refer to wedging things into tight spaces. The fridge is hidden under the assembly to the left of the photo. The detailing here shows the chin-mounted air scoops.

It's a bit hard to see, but the top wing is fully closed, and the bottom wing is open slightly, showing the range of motion.

I had wanted to make this area look a bit more polished, but adding detailing would have meant raising Gay even further from the ground, a compromise I wasn't willing to make. As it is, the underside ended up looking "realistic" enough for my tastes.
