So…yeah. Apparently work is eating my brain to the point where I’ve confused the numbers “4” and “5”. This is actually the day 4 mini-model. My bad.
or…LEGO’s bad. Because this model is really not very close to the source material at all. Here. First, look at the LEGO model.
And now look at the movie version.
…yeah. Not really close at all. I guess it’s slightly better than their prototype on the box, though:
Although some trans-green poles in the back would have been cooler, they would have been even more removed from the movie version.
Meh.
At first I thought Chris had given up trying to figure out what this was and was going to tell us it’s a clamp from Clamps, a member of the Robot Mafia in Futurama! I still can’t see how this is that ship design at all.
As for the detachable things are those what dissatisfied customers will use to demand their money back when returning this calendar? 😀
I actually recognized it based on the colours alone! Cookie for me.
Yeah, the colors were nicely done. I can happily give LEGO points for that.
Not a micro builder are you?
Not much – but I am tempted to try and see if I could come up with a better design for a couple of these.
I realize LEGO’s designers are likely hindered by available parts/colors/marketing requirements/costs and whatnot. But I also feel that if LEGO is going to release a product at this price point it should be a bit more polished. If a given ship doesn’t translate to microscale, then pick another ship.
Also, an open challenge to any reader – if you can design a different/better version any of this year’s micros, build it and send me a photo. I’ll post any submissions in the blog. The only restriction is that you have to use no more parts for the model than LEGO used. If the kit comes with spares, you can count those in the LEGO part count.
