If we ARE about to see them metting with the Friends-iverse, I’m sure there’s going to be plenty of comments regarding how stupid LEGO are for making a girl version of their product that is, quite simply, not lego.
While I’m certainly no fan of the Friends theme conceot, I have to say that the only part of it that can be described as “not LEGO” are the figures – the rest of the parts are 100% regular LEGO elements like all other System sets.
It’s not like the disaster that was “Scala” – totally out of System.
A bonus with the Friends sets is that everything is made to fit into standard LEGO stud sizes, even the hands will grip standard LEGO elements. That being said, the only reason I would want to pick up any Friends set currently would be for some azure part colors in them, which seem to be yet another color variation on TLG’s part!
Actually I was referring to those figures. Though at first I thought they were out of scale.
However, I must admit I would be interested in some of tose new coloured bricks, plus the fact that I could get new hair for my normal minifigures would be interesting.
The problem with the Friends hair is that there are numerous tiny holes to attach bows and whatnot to them. If you leave them “unaccessorized” they look like someones been going after them with a tiny power drill.
I don’t mind the sets of the Friends, but the girls them self are retarded xP
But I can’t wait to see where they end up! I also hope there is one last strip with the heads–maybe as a singing group or something! I wouldn’t put it past Doyle <3
please anything but friends. I think a second death would be WAY more humane for whiskey. The last thing he needs to encounter is the friends line. it’s nothing but a pink and purple wasteland that lego thought that girls would like.
I suppose that much hilarity could (and almost certainly will) ensue, but thinking from poor Whiskey’s vantage point, this was the first thing that popped into my head.
Honestly though, I’ve seen ‘mundanes’ that wouldn’t know the difference between Lego and Lincoln Logs, who were positively frothing at the mouth over the “Friends” line not so long ago. So of course Doyle was going to have to go there.
But if it makes you feel any better, Gollum and the molded plastic LOTR dudes will undoubtedly be making their cameo appearances in a couple months…
They’re going to end up somewhere with women, all right! Although Whiskey might wish he’d stated his wish a little more clearly! 😉
oh i guess they’ll get sucked into harry potter land or… with women… oh no chris u shouldnt of done this… DON’T PUT THEM INTO LEGO FREINDS WORLD!!!
Friends crossover ahead! It was inevitable, really.
Oh please not Friends!
i agree completely
This could backfire on Whiskey, it reminds me of #161

LEGO FRIENDS!?!?!?!?!? one word…NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why Freinds though its just a repeat of Bellville but under a new retarded name!
Heh, a Friends universe would be funny, folks — think of the myriad ways Doyle could subvert it!

Ooh! Ooh! I called it!

I’ve never been a big LOTR fan, so I’m not sure about that second prediction of yours. But I suppose you (or I) never know where the story will lead.
You all this complaining about lego friends is going to lead to one thing, “Lego Friends.” That’s just how Doyle is.
This plot line has been in the works for a while now, so the complaining doesn’t really factor into it. Although it’s fun to read.
I was just reading through the archives…Is the flame portal the same one from Advent Madness 2008???
I was reading them too and that’s what I thought when I came across that strip…
Same design, but new construction. And not the same portal in terms of the story.
I saw this via twitter: http://livelyivy.com/?p=547
I think it sums up the Friends line pretty nicely from someone who was once the target audience of these sets.
Anyways, I think Real Life is starting to work with Doyle here. Always interrupting him at the right moment. It’s a conspiracy!
(I’m joking of course)
Thanks for linking to that – I hadn’t run across it before. It does sum up a lot of what I’ve heard from female AFOLs.
