Whiskey still hasn’t tried the “Coffee”. If he’s not careful it’ll get cold.
In comparison, the Wall Part Four and a Snowspeeder.
You know…I like the idea of building a more substantial diorama. It’s an innovative way to make the Advent calendar seem like more of a building experience. But let’s face it…these wall segments are poorly designed and are lacking vital parts. The doorway has no door. The windows have no glass. There’s not even a floor. If I’m going to lose four days of Advent to a micro playset I expect it to be a nice one. And so far LEGO just isn’t delivering on that front.
The Star Wars calendar does well today, though. For a micro-scale model it’s easily recognizable as a snowspeeder. And hey, it even incorporates the word “SNOW” making this possibly the most holiday-themed day in Star Wars land yet.
SIGH.
My vote is to the building. Even a semi decent log cabin like set up is kind of christmas like and the log pieces are cool. Plus there’s the technic pins and bricks also.
The lack of a floor is actually quite good. It means that the kids can actually use their imaginations for a change and put wheels from their other LEGO playsets underneath it! Cops on wheels would mean a rather nice pursuit vehicle, and all the kid has to do is get some wheelsets to put on it. 🙂
Although the assembled Police station has more gravitas than I would have expected, the assemblage of pieces is (apart from the blue arch) not exciting, and I agree that the Cops & Robbers theme, though a City perennial, is not particularly Christmasy… and even kids who haven’t got 20 years of fandom behind them might get a little bit tired of getting more of them three years running–especially when they might have a few of them from their regular collection.
On the other hand, the mini Snowspeeder is well-designed and instantly recognisable. Star Wars wins.
I think the main calandar should have been on Ninjago. A Ninjago Christmas would have been a little better than all the coppers.
They should have used three-stud bars instead of four-stud ones, though.
