Ah, Advent Madness. I’d say I missed you, but it’d be a lie.
From here through Christmas the Brick House is back on a daily update schedule. We’ll see how long it takes before I flub that goal.
In previous years I’ve also done a daily reveal of LEGO’s advent gifts…I don’t have time to work that into a separate event this year, so I’m tweaking things slightly. Now there’ll be a “more” jump in each day’s comic post…and a reveal of the two sets. (One from the CITY advent, one from the Star Wars set.) I’ll write a bit of commentary (maybe) but leave it up to you guys to discuss the merits of one calendar over the other.
So…here’s today’s cut.
On the CITY side….a crook with what appears to be a roll of toilet paper.
One the Star Wars side…the Republic Cruiser from Episode One in delicious bite-sized form.
I’ve griped in the past about LEGO’s “Holiday Theme” being overrun by criminals, and starting off this year with a thug gives me scant hope that this year’s CITY calendar will be any different.
On the other hand…I really like this little Star Wars mini-model.
What do you think?
I vote criminal. I don’t know if a lot of sets have the really neat criminal jackets but the SW thing almost looks like it’s make of left over parts.
Too bad there’s no Advent War this year, but at least we’ll get an update on each day.
On topic, Star Wars definitely stole the show on this one. While the criminal does provide some very nice parts, I don’t think there’s anything Christmasy about crime. Star Wars doesn’t say much about Christmas either, but the model is very well built, and I could easily recognize it. So, the score stands as…
Star Wars: 1
City: 0
I fail to understand what is so holiday-ish and cheery about cops and robbers. Especially robbers with toilet paper?
Although Star Wars isn’t very christmas-y either, it’s still better than a thug.
Why, Lego?
Is “supose” a word? 😉 Anyway, the crook seems to be a regular to advent calenders, so I don’t know…The cruiser is looking cool, but that one joint keeps on bothering me. I wonder what part do any of these models signify holiday spirit though. Well, then again, with advent calenders, it never really does give much of a great impression of holiday spirit…although City usually sticks to more of a holiday-ish theme. I’m inferring on this, but that toliet paper must be for wrapping or something…Well, at least it gives it an explanation for the crook for having it. ;D
Why is no one else questioning that black Grinchley? It’s so awesome! Where and how did you get those legs like that?!
Oh nevermind. I’d missed an issue.
Maybe hes going to TP the Christmas tree instead of tinsel?
In which case, it is somewhat Christmassy, so:
City: 1
Star Wars: 0.
The swoop bike (i think?) is quite cool though.
Transport from the very beginning of Episode 1.
God, I feel unclean knowing that . . .
i think it’s just a giant snowball for a catapult or something.
That’s what I was thinking. Usually, Lego uses those cylinder pieces as ammo for those small catapults.
…Maybe the crook is a bum with a cup? It’d be a bit more Christmassy… just a bit…
People, people, how can you say Star Wars is not Christmassy? Have you not seen the Star Wars Holiday Special? Look it up on a popular video sharing website… it’s a real classic!
Mwaa ha ha haaaaa *cough* haaaa….!
I had never heard of the 1978 “Star Wars Holiday Special” until you mentioned it. I watched it and it was…trippy to say the least. 😛 Bea Arthur as the singing bartender, Harvey Korman (who I think of as the guy from Space Balls) in a few odd rolls, and an innuendo heavy interactive “show” for Grandpa Wookie “Itchy.” Crazy! 😛
I saw that special when they played it on TV down here in the 70’s it’s a one of a kind experience.
How do we know he’s a criminal? He could just be an unkempt man at Occupy Legoville, about to go to the porta-john.
Because the Man labels them as such to keep them from being regarded as heroes.
A burnt corpse, a rude red-headed half-zombie guy, and his talking frog.
An average day in Brick House.
♫ On the first day of christmas, my true love gave to me, a crook with a white roll ♫
Excited to see what they’re going to pack into the Star Wars one this year, the city stuff is naturally always very lame but some of their alt themes have been interesting somewhat.
i have the lego city advent calenter too. now i can get the legos the same day you do!
