Sure she could count them…but she doesn’t understand the game well enough to do anything useful with the information. Sort of like knowing how many grains of sugar you’re cooking with doesn’t really help bake a cake.
Counting cards in Dominion would have no purpose – all the cards are right out in the open to see – and one’s own stack gets shuffled every through play.
I’m no Dominion expert, but just to play’s devil’s advocate here… Wouldn’t knowing which cards have been played from each person’s hand as the game progresses help with planning and general strategy? That falls under “card counting” in many people’s book. I have a friend with a fantastic memory – and his knowledge of what cards have been bought, used, and are upcoming gives him a pretty substantial edge. (Well, that and he’s really amazingly good at this sort of game in general. If a guy named Bruce ever asks you for a round of Dominion….run. )
