#1042 – Intervention in Reverse
Oct12
My characters are really just echoing my own views back at me in today’s strip.
In my opinion it’s a sad world where you can show as much killing, blood and gore, and hatred on TV as you want…but you’ll be censored immediately for “foul” language and even the briefest glimpse of an unclothed human.
I’ve always thought the US would be a better place if we could swap our love of violence for…well,Β just about anything else.
you said censored for an unclothed human but what about an unclothed frobot?
I think the storyline’s in danger of going into circular progression.
The characters start to talk about the directions the strip is going, and suddenly the whole strip is a strip about where the strip is going … Well, you get the picture. π
I wonder if Doyle can pull it out of the spiral between drinks? π
@maddog: She is made of metal, so, I’m fine with her naked.
…substituted for a love of deep-fried Mars bars? I’m not sure that’s healthier.
Cheese?
I must admit, I’m glad I live a less puritanical society. I’m think of the infamous Wardrobe Malfunction — over here not only would she and the network not have got into trouble, but the whole country would either have cheered or shrugged its shoulders in a “so, it’s just a boob” way. One just has to look at “Page 3” of the Sun daily newspaper!
What annoys me is nor our censorship of it, but rather our obsession over it. Show even the mildest hint of undress on a somewhat attractive female on the internet, and suddenly you get a bunch of people drooling over it in the comments; one single word about reproduction and people will talk about it like it’s the most awesome thing in the existence of awesome. In some ways this is both the cause and the result of the censorship, so our grievances arenβt entirely unrelated.
I was in Germany for a brief period. The condom ads are all over. The people not so concerned with nudity or bodily functions. I am Sorry that America seems to think it such a big issue. When we are talk a lot of freedom. Wouldn’t you prefer freedom to fear?
@taylor penrose
in germany there are condom vendor’s in bathrooms
Wait, you mean you don’t have those in the States? Wow. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a men’s room without one in England. (That is, not counting the “little boy’s rooms” at places catering for kids, obviously)
Aren’t wookies nude? At least Ewoks put on clothes.
I’m in love with those candles. Just sayin’
@legowink- AAAAAAHHHHHHHH I need brain bleach now! Thanks a lot!
I think the reason America likes fake violence (sometimes real violence) and drool over nudity so much is because human nature is elevated in America. Our freedom lets our own nature take complete control over us. In some areas different parts of our nature is elevated more than other parts. It’s a sad thing, and we need to work on it. Also, I believe the reason we censor every bit of nudity is so we don’t lose control of ourselves. Violence is in so many things to keep our attention. It’s very sad.
Did any of that actually make sense?
Wow, what thought-provoking conversation is happening on a Lego webcomic! π
Oh, and I almost forgot. CHEESEMAN!!!!!!!
Good job talking about the issues while still keeping both an engaging pace and the regular humor this comic is known for.
Nice Explorien 2X2 plate in the background! I’m kind of a fan of the printed 2X2’s.
