Today’s strip plays homage to another trope – “Forgot I could fly”. I call it Techo-Amnesia, from my days of nit-picking Star Trek episodes. (How often can the crew forget they have access to transporters? Answer: Very often.)
I was actually several episodes downstream scripting Scotch and Whiskey talking to the club owner when the owner asked “have you tried…you know…calling them?” Up until that moment it’d hadn’t occurred to me.
Luckily there was still time to adjust the earlier strips.
And speaking of Technical Issues – my host has been having Database problems lately. I’ve been assured they’re working on it. In the meantime, sorry if the site is sluggish (or even down for hours at a time.) I’ve installed a caching plugin that should help.
I wonder if it’s possible to turn 10 different number tones into text representations so people can guess at what number you had Scotch dial? 😀
Or maybe it’d just be easier to bend to conventional fiction writing and simply use the numbers directly.
Sorry to hear about the DB issues. I’m not sure which caching solution you’re using, but I’ve had good luck with WP Super Cache in the past. It even withstood the Digg Effect a handful of times.
@Dave: I’m trying out WP Super Cache now – it does seem to be helping.
the past few days, the only time I could get on was lunch time because it said the link was busted, then it took me to an error page
@Chris, witch Star Trek do you watch?
@cobrien: Yeah, that’s what I was seeing too. Not a lot of fun. The RSS feed doesn’t rely on a DB connection, so you can always get to the strip that way as a backup…
@toaadam: I’m mostly a Classic Trek fan, although I did enjoy the first few seasons of DS9 (haven’t seen past season three or four, though.)
Youd imagine a universal translator would have a phone. Though im guesing this is an electronic babel fish, some kinds of universal translator would have sound transfer capabilitys anway (yes, im the person who thinks how sci-fi would work)
Didn’t it used to be club 56?
