The Watchmen: Nite-Owl's Owlship

It's no secret that I'm a huge comic book geek. In my home there are entire bookcases filled with graphic novels, closets filled with longboxes of individual issues, and a basement full of action figures. With that in mind, it’s not too shocking that I’d want to try my hand at making LEGO versions of super-heroic vehicles. Mostly I worked on various incarnations of the Batmobile – it’s iconic, cool, and fun to customize. But recently I’ve wanted to broaden my horizons and try some other super-rides.

At the time of this writing the hype machine around the Watchmen movie was moving into high gear. I had just seen the first trailer at a showing of The Dark Knight, and the web was flooded with shots of the full-scale prop Owlship at the 2008 San Diego ComicCon. At this point my muse was inspired – and I spent a weekend locked away in my LEGO workshop building my own small version of Nite-Owl’s ride. After all, LEGO wasn't going to do it for me...

As of this writing I've gone through three rounds of developement of the ship...

Like most of my photo reviews I've broken thing up over several pages to help with load times. We'll take a look at the exterior styling and play features, then move inside for a look at the cabin space.
