LEGO: Revised Mach-5
I spent a few hours over the weekend revising and enhancing the Mach-5 from set 8158.
I took it from this...

I read the "Work still in progress" post before I came here. I've gotta say, you must have a lot of time on your hands.
I would definitely buy that instead of the original LEGO Mach 5. Maybe you should submit ssome of your ideas and they might sell some of your stuff. You've got a lot of talent when it comes to LEGo. Maybe you just have too any bricks...
Wha'ts that megaphone... headlight... mirror thing? A Stormtrooper Issue Megaphone blaster?
anony: Yes, that's the same part, but cast in white. It hasn't been in a LEGO set since 2000, but it was fairly common in the 1990's.
Chris, I assume you by your statement that you mean you're saying that it hasn't been cast in white since 2000.
Because it's certainly been produced in colors other than white.
Geoffrey: That's correct - the white version hasn't been seen since 2000. Other colors are still shipping - heck, the black version is available right now from Pick-a-Brick at lego.com.

According to BrickLink, the rarest color known is Salmon. I haven't seen it produced in any transparent colors yet, either, come to think of it.
They must have produced it pretty tightly to have only made a few Salmon colored ones without having a large excess amount of those loudhailers left over in that color. Or maybe they do have a box full of them somewhere. ;-)
The loudhailer can make a fantastic piece, as it can make not only a loudhailer piece, it can also make a fantastic support for a small structure.
Another piece with conical structures in it is the space positioning rocket http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3963 which also has a rare color in yellow that was only produced in one set. These conical elements have a cross shaped insert for an axle to slide into. I'm surprised more use wasn't made of this particular design's feature.
I made a highly modified version of my own here:
